Attending A Comic Book Convention

Annually, the comic book industry holds it convention. The goal is to present and share new products, stories, and artists. The name has even evolved and some refer to comic books as graphic novels. Regardless, these conventions have the ability to bring together people from all walks of life and age. However, the average age of a convention attendee is likely to be closer to thirty.

The types of comics they present for sale or display varies as well. There are the usual super hero comic books. There are also more dark and mysterious stories told in graphic style. Graphic style means picture and not the adult type. However, there is also a section on erotic comics.

The convention presenters have different options when it comes to their display. Some artists use enlarged photo images which are copies of their work to show off their artistry. Others might actually allow certain attendees to peruse later editions of their prized collection. Technology also has its place here. For instance, many use LED backlight screens to provide a more enhanced color experience.

A comic book convention is all about entertainment. To this end, many large and prominent producers arrange and hire actors to impersonate certain of their characters. They would dress up accordingly and act as if they were in the comics. The idea would be to lure passersby and other attendees to visit the artist's booth. Many different mechanisms are employed. Generally, the typical story line of the more popular comics revolves around violence and/or some type of sexy female heroine or character in distress, as cliche as that might sound.

One particular artist invited a band to play the theme song of its hero. The band had a drummer, singer, and a takamine acoustic guitar player. There were dancers on both sides and his booth became one of the featured attractions. The artist, hopefully, was able to generate more sales. The cost of presenting at a convention can be prohibitive.

Going to the convention is fun and can be inspirational. There are stories of triumph of good over evil. There are other more sinister and diabolical story lines. Some even have a soap opera feel to them. Other are more intense with violence and even nudity. Some of the newer comic genres include more contemporary story lines. For instance, they might refer to a current event or crisis.

The experience is definitely unique and puts on display the talents of some of the newer and up and coming artists. Breaking into the comic book industry is a tough challenge. One not only needs a great story, but an engaging character. Then the story has to be displayed artistically. The competition can be fierce.
