Batman Gotham City

Purrfect: All About Catwoman
Batman is by no means Gotham City's only superhero (and The Joker not its only villain, for that matter), but who said all superheroes had to be good all the time? With rumours of Catwoman appearing in Batman: Arkham City, the latest game to feature Gotham's gothic millionaire (and one that might be compatible with your Xbox 360 Kinect or Playstation Move somehow), let's take a look at the history of one of Gotham City's most (in)famous antiheroines. It'll be just purrfect, I assure you...
Catwoman's Kittenhood
Looking for sex appeal and a character that might attract more female readers, Batman creator Bob Kane brought Catwoman into the comic book world. Kane explained that making her a cat woman in particular was due to him and co-developer Bill Finger seeing them as "kind of the antithesis of bats", as well as aligning them with the feminine. A romantic interest for the Bat, she was (and still is today for the most part) seen as a "friendly foe". Her real name is generally given as Selina Kyle, and despite her origins varying (as do those of many comic book characters) she always tends to be depicted as an antihero as oppose to an outright villain.
Batman Returns
A 1992 film directed by Tim Burton (and a sequel to his 1989 Batman), Batman Returns features Catwoman as a prominent character. Opposite Michael Keaton's Batman, Catwoman was portrayed by Michelle Pfeiffer wearing a very distinctive, seemingly hand-crafted outfit (I mean, who can forget that combination of shiny black vinyl and white stitches?), and the film was praised for maintaining a fittingly dark atmosphere.
Catwoman
A 2004 film starring Halle Berry, Catwoman featured the debut of Patience Phillips, a character very much unlike Selina Kyle. Poorly received by critics and arguably a box office flop, the film earned seven Golden Raspberry nominations in 2005; Halle Berry bravely turned up to claim the award for Worst Actress personally. The video game, featuring Berry's voice, was also not very well received (perhaps Kinect compatibility would have improved it?). Longstanding fans of Catwoman even went so far as to refer to the film as "CINO", or Catwoman In Name Only.
