Six Animal Themes Exhibited
One museum has an animal friends exhibit and it is planning to hold a program in conjunction with this where six local artists can demonstrate their individual approaches to animal painting. Each one of the artists is required to create an animal theme painting in the museum galleries and then tell the visitors what style and techniques they used to capture the image and spirit of the animals in the paintings. The museum's executive director said that animals have special meaning for people of all cultures and backgrounds. You will find that further information on pet portrait art is on that site.
A symbol of spirituality is the buffalo while doves provide signs of peace. What dogs symbolize are cherished friends while a red tailed hawk can be a good omen. All over the world, animals continue to be the favorites because since the beginning of time from petroglyphs to cave murals to oil paintings to jewelry they have been the subjects of artistic endeavor.
What this female artist considers herself to be is an avid explorer of ideas, styles, and techniques. Over a long career of teaching, in workshop presentations, publications, and consulting was how she developed her methods. She is a founding member of a local society of watercolorists and is in the west's who's who.
Coming from southern California was another female artist and she took up art and watercolor before moving to her hometown in 1983. What she works with are themes like landscapes and floral studies as well as people and animal portraits. According to the director, she has a style that results from her ability to push the watercolor medium into works of unusual size without sacrificing the brilliance of transparent watercolor not to mention her aggressive use of pigment. It was another artist who studied at a famous college and at the art center of college of design in Los Angeles. What his work was back in Chicago was as a graphic designer but he has exhibited nationally including the national watercolor exhibition in environment. Not only will each of the artists be creating presentations and publications in Springfield, Illinois but also in local and regional venues as well.
A period of study at the University of California in Los Angeles followed the fourth artist's graduation with high honors from New York's school of art. What she won at Washington school of art's 12th annual competition was the best of show. Able to give a precious glimpse of human drama is how her work was described by a reviewer considering how it is full of psychological poignancy as parts of a famous director's film.
Her degree in painting was earned by the fifth artist from Kansas university school of fine arts. Not only does she give the viewer a feeling of the mood of the subject but the atmosphere as well as she paints in her own interpretive style of realism. What she has been able to do is hold a number of one person shows, participate in the Kansas landscape which is a traveling exhibition shown at the Smithsonian institution in Washington, DC and participate in juried exhibitions.
She spent eight years studying Chinese brush painting with a noted Chinese painter and so the sixth artist culminated her study of art and refinement of painting skills. What she did was adapt this style of painting, lifted or erased during creation, to the northern New Mexican environment. It was the director of the museum who said that they are honored to welcome these distinguished artists from the society of watercolorists to the museum and reiterated was their commitment to artists and designers working showing up.
For the pleasure of audiences both young and old is the current animal friends exhibition which has been specially selected. I am sure that all our visitors will enjoy watching these artists create portraits of their own special animal friends in this workshop. Beginning in 1992 was the society of watercolorists which has a mission to encourage the production not to mention appreciation of professional quality watercolors locally and nationally.
