if shonen jump magazine is released weekly in japan, then why is is released monthly in america?
i was read Bakuman and just asked this question now, because they said they released once every week and im curious as to why it is released weekly in japan and monthly in america
Answer:
I think the main reason is probably popularity. Manga sales really aren't very impressive compared to those in Japan, so as a result:
In America:
- We have only one printed manga magazine, it's the American version of what's probably the most popular manga magazine on the planet, and it's only monthly
- It's only around 300 pages on average
- It only features a handful of titles
In Japan:
- They have many more manga magazines, some weekly, some bi-weekly, some monthly, and so on.
- They generally have many, many more pages per issue than US Shonen Jump
- They generally feature more titles
Furthermore ,being published weekly would probably significantly lower the number of people who could afford to keep up with the magazine...so, that would mean higher production costs and a smaller audience.
Plus, people often wait the buy the compiled volumes of whichever series that they like rather than subscribe to the magazine, so that drops the sales even more.
