First time anime con?
Hi, i'm 13 and going to my first anime con (well technically its a comic-con with loads to do with anime!) In case you hadn't already guessed I am an anime fan.
This being my first comic-con, I figured I may as well search the web for advice and tips on what to do at your first con! I'm not staying overnight and Unfortunately don't have enough pocket money (and mom wont let me anyway, even if I had the pocket money... BOO!) cosplay, so that's out... anybody have any advice for someone in my postion? (By the way, its the London-con http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2EKMpFpz99c this video shows a bit about it) I'm going on the 9th of July
Answer:
1. I just went to my first con last week, I'd have to say it was pretty awesome! When you arrive, you go buy your ticket(if you haven't preordered yet) and you get a name tag which allows you to enter various places. As to how you should act, there are no rules. Just relax and have fun! Trust me. no one's going to notice whose a noob, a casual anime fan or an avid cosplayer, it's all the same once you eneter.
2. When you buy your ticket, they will give you a schedule and guidebook which has a map of the con and the various events that will occur at what time and place. My advice is to look the events up before you go so you don't have to waste time figuring everything out. Yes, there are talent shows, skits, trivia contests, costume contests, improve comedy, free concerts(yes FREE). Most of the events are free, but some of them you need to pay extra. For eg, the con I attended, there was a maid cafe, a butler cafe, a j-pop rave and a midnight ball which all costs extra cash.
3. You don't have to dress up. I would say that 50% of people are in costume, 20% are dressed for the occasion(as in wearing anime related stuff that pins, badges, kitty hats etc) and the rest are in civilian clothes. For the selling, they sell a whole bunch of stuff- posters, action figures, DVD's, cards, plushies, keychains, dolls, jewelry, steampunk stuff, original artwork, manga, swords O.O,
costumes, some regular American comics, and a whole lot more. Plus, it's better to buy it at cons cuz it's cheaper. There are also manga/anime artists and voice actors there who will give autographs.
Have fun!
